EdTechSA’s Mission

With a history stretching back to 1986—originally known as the Computers in Education Group of South Australia (CEGSA)—the organisation has evolved alongside the digital revolution. In 2013, the name change to EdTechSA reflected the broader scope of digital learning, embracing everything from coding and robotics to emerging mobile technologies.

EdTechSA’s mission is straightforward: to support and empower educators in effectively using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) while promoting the teaching of Digital Technologies across South Australian schools. The organisation achieves this through a focus on three main areas:

  • Professional Learning: By organising workshops, seminars, and conferences, EdTechSA equips teachers with practical skills and contemporary strategies for integrating digital tools into their classrooms.
  • Networking and Collaboration: The association provides opportunities for educators to connect, share experiences, and learn from each other, fostering a community that champions innovation in education.
  • Advocacy and Recognition: EdTechSA serves as an advocate for teachers at local and state levels, ensuring their voices are heard in policy discussions. The organisation also recognises outstanding contributions through annual awards that celebrate educators who excel in using technology to enhance learning.

EdTechSA: Professional Development and Events

A cornerstone of EdTechSA’s work is its commitment to professional development. The association offers a diverse range of events—from after-school workshops and webinars to its highly anticipated annual state conference. These events provide hands-on learning experiences where teachers gain insights into topics such as coding, digital safety, and the latest e-learning tools.

The annual state conference is a highlight for many educators. It features a mix of keynote presentations, practical workshops, and panel discussions led by respected experts from Australia and around the world.

This conference not only builds skills but also creates a space for teachers to network and share best practice. In times when in-person gatherings are not possible, EdTechSA has successfully pivoted to virtual events, ensuring continuous access to quality professional learning.

EdTechSA’s Impact in the Classroom

EdTechSA has played a pivotal role in supporting the rollout of the Digital Technologies curriculum in South Australia. As schools embraced new curriculum requirements, many educators found themselves needing to upskill quickly.

In response, EdTechSA collaborated with higher education institutions and industry partners to offer workshops that provided teachers with both theoretical background and practical classroom applications. These efforts have helped many educators confidently integrate digital tools into their teaching, enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes.

By highlighting innovative teaching practices, EdTechSA also inspires other educators. The organisation’s awards, such as the Educator of the Year and Digital Technologies Teacher of the Year, recognise those who have successfully used technology to make a difference in their classrooms.

These awards not only celebrate individual achievement but also set benchmarks for excellence that encourage continuous improvement across the sector.

EdTechSA’s Initiatives and Partnerships

EdTechSA’s commitment to fostering digital literacy goes beyond teacher training. One notable initiative is the “Make It Better” student competition, which invites students to tackle real-world problems using digital solutions. This competition encourages creativity and problem-solving among young people and showcases how technology can be used to address global challenges.

By involving students directly, EdTechSA highlights the importance of nurturing the next generation of digital innovators.

The organisation also actively partners with other educational bodies and industry stakeholders. Collaborative events, such as joint STEM conferences, bring together experts from various disciplines to explore cross-curricular applications of technology.

These partnerships enrich the learning experiences offered to teachers and students alike, ensuring that South Australia remains at the forefront of educational innovation.

The organisation’s history is intertwined with the story of how schools in the state have embraced new tools to enrich learning.

EdTechSA’s positive influence is evident in the confident, connected community of teachers it has nurtured – educators who are not only competent in using technology, but also creative in applying it to engage students and improve outcomes.

By staying true to its mission of support, professional growth, and innovation, EdTechSA has contributed immensely to building a culture in South Australian schools where digital technology is embraced as a powerful enabler of teaching and learning.

Looking ahead, EdTechSA remains as relevant as ever.
